TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) reported on Wednesday (July 30) that southwestern airflow will continue to affect Taiwan, bringing heavy rainfall to areas south of Miaoli and the southeastern regions. Yunlin and areas further south will see significant and sustained rainfall, with a high chance of heavy rain or torrential downpours.
The administration advised caution as other areas will remain mostly cloudy, with localized thunderstorms in the afternoon. High rainfall probability poses risks of landslides, rockfalls, mudslides, and flash floods in mountain regions, while low-lying areas may face flooding. Temperatures in central and southern Taiwan will range from 28 to 32 degrees Celsius, while northern areas will see 32 to 35°C, with Taipei Basin and the Huatong Valley (花東縱谷) feeling particularly muggy.
Outlying islands such as Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu will experience cloudy skies with occasional showers and thunderstorms, varying from 27 to 32°C. Strong winds are expected in parts of Taoyuan to Miaoli, Pingtung, Green Island (綠島), Orchid Island (蘭嶼), and Matsu, with waves reaching up to 4 meters in the southeastern seas.
Tropical Storm Krosa, located 2,140 kilometers northeast of Taipei, remains stationary and poses no direct threat to Taiwan. However, Tropical Storm CO-MAY, 470 kilometers north-northeast of Taipei, will move toward Hangzhou Bay (杭州灣), potentially increasing rainfall in central and southern Taiwan. The Taiwan Air Quality Monitoring Network (環境部空氣品質預報資訊) reported good air quality in several regions, though ozone levels may rise slightly in the north.
