TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's meteorologists have significantly downgraded the likelihood of Tropical Depression TD15 intensifying into a typhoon due to deteriorating environmental conditions that inhibit storm development. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) Taiwan's national weather service reported that high vertical wind shear and unfavorable sea temperature conditions have substantially reduced TD15's typhoon formation potential. This meteorological assessment provides relief for Taiwan as the island enters peak typhoon season amid ongoing regional weather monitoring efforts.

The Taiwan Typhoon Forum (台灣颱風論壇), an influential meteorological Facebook page, reinforced this assessment by noting that tropical depression 92W's typhoon formation probability has significantly decreased and will continue weakening during its northward trajectory. Taiwan's weather service plans intensive monitoring of the Guam vicinity for potential tropical system developments while anticipating improved atmospheric conditions after Friday. This collaborative approach between official agencies and meteorological communities enhances Taiwan's storm tracking capabilities.

Taiwan's weather conditions remained predominantly cloudy to clear this morning, with meteorologists forecasting isolated afternoon thunderstorms across the island. Heavy precipitation is anticipated in western and eastern mountainous regions, while central and southern mountain areas face brief but intense rainfall. Eastern Taiwan temperatures will reach 31 to 32 degrees Celsius (88 to 90°F), while western regions could see highs of 34 to 35 degrees Celsius (93 to 95°F), with Taipei City potentially reaching 36 degrees Celsius (97°F) or higher.

Wednesday's forecast indicates increased atmospheric moisture and unstable conditions will generate isolated showers across the Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula Taiwan's southernmost tip, while other regions maintain mostly cloudy to clear skies. Afternoon thunderstorms are anticipated throughout the island, accompanied by heavy rainfall in western and eastern mountainous areas and brief intense precipitation in central and southern mountain regions. Western Taiwan may experience scattered nocturnal showers extending into early morning hours, creating challenging commuting conditions. ◼
