TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The HSUN HU No.7 (巡護七號) returned to Kaohsiung Port (高雄港) on Monday Sept. 8 after a 46-day mission spanning over 8,198 nautical miles. The vessel, operated by the Coast Guard Administration's (CGA, 海巡署), embarked on July 25 to patrol the high seas under the North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC) and the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC).
During the mission, personnel inspected six Taiwan-registered fishing vessels for illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities. The CGA reported that officers, alongside Fisheries Agency (漁業署) inspectors, conducted these inspections to ensure compliance with international fishing regulations. Additionally, the crew provided support to Taiwanese long-distance fishing vessels by delivering instant noodles and other supplies to the crew members.
The CGA emphasized the significance of these patrols in reinforcing Taiwan's commitment to international participation and fulfilling its global responsibilities. The administration plans to maintain close collaboration with the Fisheries Agency to ensure the safety of Taiwan's deep-sea fishermen and monitor their activities on the high seas.
