TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) sharply criticized the government's Cabinet reshuffle announced Wednesday (Aug. 27), condemning the lack of accountability following recent political upheavals. The sweeping personnel changes affected 10 government agencies and displaced 16 officials across Taiwan's administrative structure. Chu expressed deep disappointment with the reshuffling decisions, arguing that the changes failed to address fundamental governance issues plaguing the current administration.

The KMT chairman delivered his criticism during a Standing Committee of the Central Committee (國民黨中常會) meeting, describing the reshuffle as deeply disheartening for Taiwan's democratic governance. Chu lamented that competent non-political and professional Cabinet members faced removal while officials aligned with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) escaped consequences. The opposition leader argued that these selective personnel decisions reflected a troubling lack of introspection from both the government and Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰).

Chu leveraged the recent mass recall victory to rally party support, expressing optimism about the KMT's prospects for reclaiming power in 2026 and 2028 elections. The veteran politician pledged his continued commitment to strengthening the party's position through various leadership roles and strategic initiatives. Chu emphasized that maintaining party unity remains essential for the KMT to achieve its political objectives and effectively champion Taiwan's citizens' interests.

The KMT chairman confirmed his intention to step down ahead of the party's leadership election scheduled for October 2025, signaling a significant transition period. Chu called upon his administrative team to maintain unwavering diligence in their current duties and responsibilities during this critical juncture. The outgoing leader emphasized the importance of meticulous execution of party operations to ensure a seamless leadership transition for Taiwan's main opposition party. ◼
