(天氣風險公司), a private weather forecasting company, projected Wednesday (Aug. 27) that tropical disturbance 93W near the Philippines will advance into the South China Sea. The system could strengthen into Typhoon No. 14 by drawing moisture from the southwest monsoon, potentially threatening Hainan Island and Vietnam. Taiwan remains outside the storm's projected path and faces no immediate danger from this developing weather system.
WeatherRisk forecasters indicated that Taiwan will encounter brief showers on windward areas, particularly affecting the northeast region, eastern coastlines of Hualien and Taitung counties, and the Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula. These conditions result from Pacific high-pressure systems and easterly wind patterns Wednesday and Thursday (Aug. 27-28). A cold-core low-pressure system will traverse the island Friday through Sunday (Aug. 29-31), triggering afternoon thunderstorms across western Taiwan, especially areas south of Hsinchu.
Meteorologist Lin De-en (林德恩) announced on Facebook that Pacific high-pressure systems will maintain strong control over Taiwan's weather through August's conclusion, producing predominantly sunny and sweltering daytime conditions. Regions north of Taoyuan and mountainous plains throughout central and southern Taiwan may experience localized temperatures soaring to 36 to 37 degrees Celsius (97 to 99°F) or higher. ◼
