TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Industry leaders and technology innovators gathered Wednesday (Aug. 20) as the Intelligent Asia expo (亞洲工業4.0暨智慧製造系列展) opened its doors at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center (台北南港展覽館). The massive trade show features 4,500 booths from over 1,000 companies spanning 16 countries, highlighting cutting-edge developments in artificial intelligence, humanoid robotics, and sustainable manufacturing. Eight specialized zones showcase automation, robotics, laser technology, logistics, cold chain systems, molds, 3D printing, and fluid power innovations.
Industry executives delivered contrasting messages about Taiwan's manufacturing future during the expo's opening ceremonies. Ssu Kuo-i (絲國一), chairman of the Taiwan Automation Intelligence and Robotics Association (台灣智慧自動化與機器人協會), projected that Taiwan's AI robotics industry output value would exceed NT$1 trillion (around US$33 billion) in coming years. Chang He-ming (張和明), chairman of the Taiwan Mold & Die Industry Association (台灣模具工業同業公會), called for stricter government measures on Chinese mold imports to prevent potential re-export complications with the United States.
The expo's automation and robotics pavilion draws visitors with demonstrations of smart factory technologies ranging from high-precision robotic arms to collaborative robots. Leading manufacturers including Taiwan's Hiwin (上銀), Japan's Fanuc (發那科), Switzerland's ABB, and Japanese giants Epson and Denso showcase their latest robotic arm innovations. The displays emphasize edge computing capabilities, embedded systems, and comprehensive AI system integration for modern manufacturing environments.
German technology giant Siemens joins Taiwanese companies Delta Electronics (台達電) and Syntec Technology (新代) in the AI system integration zone, demonstrating sophisticated algorithms and data platforms. These systems promise to automate complex manufacturing decisions while reducing human error and operational costs. Meanwhile, the smart energy pavilion features Shihlin Electric (士林電機) and TECO Electric and Machinery Co. (東元電機) promoting advanced power management and storage systems designed for net-zero manufacturing goals.
