TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Competitors from Taipei's public and private vocational high schools dominated the National Skills Competition (全國技能競賽) Sunday (July 20), clinching 10 gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze medals to secure Taiwan's top national ranking. Taipei City Department of Education (台北市教育局) officials expressed pride in the city's athletes, particularly for sweeping the top three spots in the "Refrigeration and Air Conditioning" and "Industry 4.0" categories. The impressive performance underscored Taipei's technical education excellence on the national stage.
Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School (南港高工) emerged as the competition's standout performer, earning four gold medals across "Automotive Technology," "Refrigeration and Air Conditioning," "Industry 4.0," and "Digital Construction BIM" categories. Taipei Municipal Songshan High School of Agriculture and Industry (松山工農) achieved dual golds in "Mobile Application Development" and "Cloud Computing." Taipei Municipal Daan Vocational High School (大安高工), Nei-Hu Vocational High School (內湖高工), and Muzha Vocational High School (木柵高工) captured additional golds in specialized technical fields.
The department revealed an investment exceeding NT$2.77 million (around US$94,400) in athlete training before the competition. The top three winners will receive cash prizes totaling nearly NT$2.3 million (around US$78,400). These top performers can now register for national team selection, offering opportunities to compete in the WorldSkills Asia Competition (亞洲技能競賽) scheduled for Nov. 27-29 this year. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$29.35)
