TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Robots are taking center stage at COMPUTEX 2025, where innovative technologies addressing Taiwan's pressing challenges are on display. With a nursing shortage and a rapidly aging population, healthcare robotics has emerged as a focal point of the exhibition. Foxconn, known locally as Hon Hai Precision Industry Company (鴻海), has introduced "Nurabot," a sophisticated nursing assistant designed to alleviate pressure on medical personnel.
"Nurabot handles repetitive tasks, allowing nurses to focus more on patient care," explained Una Huang (黃嫻雅), a UX designer at Foxconn. The robot performs multiple functions, including sample collection, medication delivery, and patient education. Taichung Veterans General Hospital (台中榮民總醫院) has already implemented the technology in its daily operations.
The exhibition extends beyond healthcare applications. Pegatron (和碩) unveiled "Simba," an advanced robotic dog equipped with sophisticated sensors capable of carrying loads up to 60 kg. With an impressive battery life ranging from 8 to 12 hours, Simba is engineered for challenging environments such as disaster zones and hazardous terrain.
"Simba can play a key role in rescue missions and hazardous area detection," Pegatron Chairman Tung Tzu-hsien (童子賢) told attendees on May 20. The quadruped robot demonstrates Taiwan's growing capabilities in developing specialized robotics for dangerous situations where human intervention poses significant risks.
Li demonstrated how physical AI is revolutionizing industry operations through machine collaboration. In his example, a humanoid AI agent can process requests from factory workers, instructing robot dogs to retrieve specific items from the warehouse, creating a seamless workflow between human needs and robotic execution.
As collaborative robots increasingly share workspaces with humans, safety protocols have become paramount. "When I approach the robot, it stops immediately," demonstrated Jenny Shern (沈倩怡), General Manager of nexCOBOT (創博), showcasing their integrated safety systems that combine robot controllers, functional safety controllers, and sensors to prevent workplace accidents.
With Taiwan officially entering super-aged society status, where more than 20 percent of the population is 65 or older, labor shortages have become a critical concern across multiple industries. The robotics innovations showcased at COMPUTEX 2025 represent not just technological advancement but practical solutions to the island's demographic challenges.
