TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The weakening of the northeast monsoon in Taiwan shifted the wind pattern to an east-southeast direction, the Central Weather Administration (CCWA, 氣象署) reported on Wednesday (April 30). Morning temperatures range between 18-21 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs expected to surpass yesterday's, reaching 29-31 degrees in the east and 31-33 degrees in the west.
This change has resulted in a dry, stable atmosphere, offering clear skies throughout the region. The CWA advises residents to prepare for the heat, as some areas might experience temperatures soaring to 35 degrees. The administration recommends sun protection and staying hydrated when venturing outdoors. As the week progresses, weather conditions will shift significantly.
The first wave of the plum rain front will sweep swiftly southward across Taiwan on Sunday. This system will bring showers or thunderstorms to central and northern regions and the eastern areas. The south is expecting localized afternoon thunderstorms. The tail end of the front will graze the northern seas on Thursday, increasing the probability and coverage of short-term showers from central to northern Taiwan and the east. The front will move eastward quickly by Friday, altering the wind to a northeast direction, resulting in cloudy skies in the west and localized showers or thunderstorms in the windward east.
Saturday will bring a shift to southeast-south winds, increasing moisture and instability, leading to brief showers in the east and potential severe thunderstorms in the west during the afternoon. Residents should remain cautious of sudden downpours, lightning, and strong winds.
