TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's stock market opened higher Thursday (March 6), with the index rising 58.21 points to 22,930.11, buoyed by gains in U.S. markets the previous day. The four major U.S. indices closed higher, providing a positive lead for Taiwan's market.

TSMC (台積電) remained flat at NT$1,020, while Hon Hai (鴻海) rose NT$2 to NT$175.5. MediaTek (聯發科) held steady at NT$1,505, Quanta Computer (廣達) increased NT$1 to NT$263, and Evergreen Marine (長榮) stayed unchanged at NT$219.5.

Taiwan's weighted index closed at 22,871.90, up 275.02 points or 1.22% a day earlier, with a total turnover of NT$369.732 billion. Foreign investors sold NT$14.07 billion, while investment trusts and proprietary traders bought NT$3.322 billion and sold NT$5.068 billion, respectively.

In the U.S., President Donald Trump's decision to delay tariffs on some automobiles boosted auto stocks. Ford surged 5.8%, General Motors climbed 7.2%, and Tesla increased 2.6%. The Fed reported that tariffs and immigration policies threaten the labor market, though economic activity has grown and inflation has slowed.
