TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Excitement is building at the ASUS headquarters as preparations ramp up for the upcoming "Smart City Summit & Expo" (智慧城市展), where the company plans to unveil its latest innovations in urban technology. K.J. Liu (劉均敬), vice president of Askey Computer (亞旭電腦), a subsidiary of ASUS, highlighted the company's strategic initiatives aimed at integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into smart city solutions.

Liu told TVBS World Taiwan of the importance of collaboration in the smart city value chain, which he described as comprising four essential roles. “The first one is a solution partner. The second one is you must have a CC integrator. And then the third one is usually you call the telco. It’s a service provider. And the last one definitely is a B2B or B2G to government,” Liu explained. He noted that ASUS is striving to transition from products and components to comprehensive solutions that cater to all partners and customers.

This approach is particularly timely, according to Liu. “It’s a perfect moment, ASUS has its own AI and IoT. Askey can offer the 5G connectivity, and from the ASUS cloud, it can then integrate seamlessly,” he said. Liu believes that ASUS is uniquely positioned in Taiwan to deliver an all-encompassing smart city solution. As smart cities evolve, privacy and security remain a central focus for ASUS. Liu remarked, “We think privacy is part of security. We are talking about people’s personal sensitive data, such as profession and names. We do a lot to ensure security when we tackle the smart city solution."

This commitment to privacy comes amid increasing concerns over data protection as cities adopt more interconnected technologies. Liu’s remarks underscore the company's dual focus on innovation and the ethical management of data. ASUS is also making strides in sustainability, with ambitious targets set for the coming years. “In ASUS, we plan to achieve 30% energy savings in all our major products by this year compared to the Star Energy standard product industry,” Liu noted. By 2030, the company aims to reach RE 100 status in Taiwan, with a global target set for 2035.

Liu added that ASUS plans to invest in innovative startups that focus on renewable energy and energy-saving technologies. “Things to help the whole industry, to help the country, to help the world,” he said, emphasizing the broader impact of these initiatives. ASUS's approach to smart cities involves collaboration not only within its own divisions but also with external partners. Liu mentioned an upcoming showcase of the company’s EV charging solution developed in collaboration with Organa, another subsidiary. “We can offer the smart EV charging solution to tackle the current EV charging issues,” he stated.

This collaboration is part of what Liu describes as a “perfect storm” for ASUS to deliver integrated solutions in the smart city landscape. The upcoming Smart City Forum will provide a platform for ASUS to present these innovations and discuss further advancements in urban technology. As the Smart City Forum approaches, ASUS continues to position itself at the forefront of innovation in the technology sector. Liu’s insights indicate that the company is not only focused on developing cutting-edge solutions but also committed to fostering a sustainable future through responsible practices.

With its focus on ESG principles, privacy, and collaboration, ASUS aims to set a benchmark for smart city initiatives both in Taiwan and globally. As Liu succinctly put it, “This is the Chairman’s ambition. We don’t want to miss that direction.” Stay tuned for more insights from the Smart City Forum, where ASUS is expected to showcase its vision for the future of urban living.
