TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Presidential Office (總統府) has implemented three new energy-saving measures starting Monday (March 3) to address budget cuts and freezes approved by the Legislative Yuan (立法院). Karen Kuo (郭雅慧), the Presidential Office spokesperson, explained that the Legislative Yuan's review led to a 10% cut in water and electricity budgets and a 70% freeze in operational expenses, significantly affecting the office's essential functions.
To mitigate the impact on its operations, these measures include reducing nighttime lighting, optimizing air conditioning, and cutting subscriptions and office supplies. Kuo noted that nighttime lighting will operate at minimal brightness after sunset and shut off completely at midnight.
She outlined the second measure, which involves reducing air conditioning usage by limiting the operation of chillers, only using fans in winter, and turning off the air conditioning an hour earlier in summer while maintaining a temperature not lower than 28 degrees Celsius. Also, the office will install water-saving devices to reduce watering and car washing.
The third measure includes significantly cutting newspaper and magazine subscriptions and canceling cable TV set-top boxes. Kuo emphasized that the Presidential Office will adjust these measures based on operational needs and the timeline for budget unfreezing by the Legislative Yuan.
