KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung City Government (高雄市政府) will hold a series of commemorative events to mark the 78th anniversary of the 228 Incident on Friday (Feb. 28), aiming to foster historical reflection and appreciation for current freedoms and democracy through these activities.

The Kaohsiung 228 Peace Memorial Park (高雄二二八和平紀念公園) will host a memorial ceremony to honor the victims of the 1947 incident at 8:30 a.m. In the afternoon, the Kaohsiung Film Archive (KFA, 高雄市電影館) will screen Hou Hsiao-Hsien's (侯孝賢) film "A City of Sadness" (悲情城市). This screening seeks to immerse attendees in the historical scars of the era through its poignant imagery.

The Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (高雄市立美術館) will also feature the "Light of the World" (世界上光的光) 228 Memorial Concert at 7 p.m. Performers including Ilid Kaolo (以莉.高露), Lin Tsung-hsing (林宗興), the Kaohsiung Chamber Choir (高雄室內合唱團), and the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra (高雄市交響樂團) will present over ten pieces centered on love and Taiwan. This concert, which aims to convey peace through music, offers free admission by ticket.

Organizers recommend obtaining tickets at various cultural venues, as some locations have already distributed their allocations. Each person may collect up to two tickets, and all attendees must present a ticket for entry.
