TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced Tuesday (Feb. 18) the establishment of a new Ministry of Sports (運動部) in August to promote public sports and international competitions. The premier made the annoucement during The 9th Asian Winter Games Harbin 2025 (哈爾濱亞洲冬季運動會) Team Taiwan's homecoming banquet. Cho emphasized the ministry's focus on athlete training, resource allocation, and facility development.
Cho stated that the initiative aims to enhance Taiwan's international sports performance and promote balanced development across all sports. National sports policy's commitment to ensuring athletes' safety, welfare, and support during competitions and future careers. Furthermore, Cho encouraged the public to support Taiwanese athletes in the upcoming World Baseball Classic (世界棒球經典賽), expressing hope for 2025 to be a prosperous year for national sports events.
Meanwhile, he added that the Ministry of Sports will not only develop star sports programs but also promote mass sports and the sports industry in a balanced manner, enhancing Taiwan's international athletic performance.
