TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Detroit Tigers revealed their spring training roster on Tuesday (Feb. 11), including Taiwanese player Lee Hao-yu (李灝宇). This marks Lee as the fifth Taiwanese athlete to participate in Major League Baseball's (MLB) spring training this season.
Lee, 22, began his U.S. journey in 2021 with the Philadelphia Phillies and, through a trade, joined the Detroit Tigers in 2023. He played 87 games in Double-A last year, hitting 12 home runs with a .298 batting average, steadily approaching the major leagues.
The Taiwanese contingent in MLB spring training also includes Cheng Tsung-che (鄭宗哲) with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Teng Kai-Wei (鄧愷威) with the San Francisco Giants, Zhuang Chen Zhong-Ao (莊陳仲敖) with the Oakland Athletics (A'), and newly signed catcher Lyle Lin (林家正) with the A.'
Pitcher Lin Yu-min (林昱珉) could have also joined the Arizona Diamondbacks for spring training but opted out to be with his newborn daughter.
