TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Students gearing up for the 2025 college entrance exam flocked to Wenchang Temple (台北市文昌宮) in Taipei and Zhennan Temple (嘉義市鎮南聖神宮) in Chiayi on Sunday (Jan. 12), seeking divine blessings for success. These temples have seen a surge in visitors as the exam day approaches on Saturday (Jan. 18).

At Wenchang Temple, students placed their exam admission tickets and other items on the offering table, hoping for good fortune. The temple opened early registration for its blessing ceremony, drawing a significant crowd of parents and students eager to secure a spot.

Zhennan Temple, nearly 300 years old, houses two statues of Confucius, including a rare paper sculpture donated by Chiayi Mayor Lai Yuan-ping (賴淵平) in 1952. Known as the "Old Confucius Temple," it attracts students who believe in its reputed efficacy during exam seasons.

Students bring various items for blessings, such as photocopies of admission tickets, pens, green onions, white radishes, red beans, and wisdom paper. Many emphasize the importance of "70% effort and 30% divine help" (七分努力,三分神助). As the exam date nears, the bustling activity at these temples reflects the high stakes and cultural significance of academic success in Taiwan.
