TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Shanghai Vice Mayor Hua Yuan (華源) announced on Tuesday (Dec. 17) that the city will resume group tours to Taiwan, marking a significant milestone in post-pandemic travel between the two sides. He expressed his delight at being in beautiful Taipei and conveyed congratulations from the Shanghai Municipal People's Government (上海人民政府) for the forum's success.
In his remarks, the vice mayor mentioned that Shanghai stands as "the first mainland Chinese city to officially restore group tours to Taiwan since the pandemic restrictions eased." He highlighted that many Taiwanese have embraced Shanghai as a second home, fostering closer ties. He stated, "Shanghai will actively promote group tours for Shanghai residents to Taiwan, which will definitely include Taipei City." He expressed confidence that the forum would yield tangible results, benefiting citizens of both cities.
Hua emphasized the expanding cooperation between Shanghai and Taipei. A total of 45 memorandums of understanding were signed, promoting collaboration in sectors like economy, education, health care, and environmental protection. Last year's agreements on green energy and sustainable marketing have already shown positive outcomes, enhancing cross-city interaction and development.
He noted the presence of 23,000 Taiwanese businesses in Shanghai, including Taipei enterprises, showcasing deep economic ties.
