TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's aging population threatens to exacerbate the shortage of senior talent, with 87% of companies facing succession planning challenges, according to recruitment company Robert Walters. The talent solutions provider released a white paper after surveying 253 Taiwanese businesses, revealing that 54% have yet to establish succession plans.
John Winter, general manager of Robert Walters Taiwan, emphasized the importance of succession planning. By nurturing the next generation of leaders, organizations can weather crises, drive innovation, and remain competitive in an increasingly complex market environment.
The report highlighted that 39% of companies worry about replacing senior talent nearing retirement. Additionally, over half of the businesses identified two urgent issues: the risk of losing critical skills and experience (57%) and the difficulty in fostering knowledge transfer and skill development among younger employees (55%).
The National Development Council (NDC, 國發會) predicts Taiwan will become a super-aged society in 2025, with individuals over 65 comprising 20% of the total population. This demographic shift underscores the urgency for companies to address talent shortages and succession planning to maintain competitiveness.
