NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A construction site in New Taipei City's (新北市) Sanchong District (三重區) experienced a suspected foundation collapse on Monday (Jan. 6), causing a nearby residential building to tilt and develop cracks. The Fire Department of the New Taipei City Government (新北市消防局) received reports from residents, prompting immediate dispatch of personnel to the scene at around 9 a.m. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The incident occurred on Liuzhang Street (六張街), where excavation work for a new building project was underway. The New Taipei City Public Works Department (新北工務局) confirmed that the project involves a nine-story building with two underground levels. The excavation has reached a depth of 6.4 meters, and the neighboring houses are tilting, with conditions still changing.
A resident of the most severely affected house recalled that around 3 a.m., tiles began falling inside, prompting an early morning alert. The Public Works Department, along with the New Taipei City Civil Engineers Association (新北市土木技師公會), is actively managing the situation
Authorities have temporarily shut off electricity and gas supplies at the site, and the Fire Department is assisting with water supply for ongoing rescue efforts. The affected nine households, comprising 22 people, have been evacuated and are receiving proper accommodation from the district office and the developer.
