TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Farglory Dome Company (遠雄巨蛋公司) addressed safety concerns at the Taipei Dome (大巨蛋) on Friday (Jan. 3), assuring the public that observed cracks are merely paint fissures that do not compromise structural integrity. This statement follows heightened public scrutiny after singer A-Mei (張惠妹) held concerts at the venue, raising issues about vibrations affecting nearby historical sites such as the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park (松山菸廠).
Fans attending the concert noticed cracks in the stands, further fueling safety concerns. Farglory Dome Company clarified that these are surface-level paint cracks, not structural fractures, and emphasized that the cracks did not appear during the concert. The company plans to conduct a comprehensive inspection with structural engineers to ensure ongoing safety.
Despite these assurances, public skepticism about the dome's structural safety persists. Chan Wei-yuan (詹為元), a Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Taipei City councilor, urged the city government to involve the Taipei City Construction Management Office (建築管理工程處), the Taipei Structural Engineers Association (結構技師公會), and third-party experts to conduct an independent inspection. This move aims to alleviate public concerns and provide transparent findings.
