TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) announced on Thursday (Dec. 5) that the city government will manage crowd dispersal and traffic plans while collaborating with organizers to boost the Taipei Dome (大巨蛋) concert economy. The announcement comes as singer A-Mei (張惠妹) prepares for her New Year's Eve concert at Taipei Dome, coinciding with the city's year-end events, creating challenges in crowd management.
A-Mei's manager, Issac Chen (陳鎮川), initially criticized the city for shifting responsibility but later clarified it was a misunderstanding. The director of Taipei's Department of Economic Development, Kao Chen-yuan (高振源), highlighted that Taipei Dome hosted 70 baseball games from November last year to this November, attracting approximately 1.4 million attendees and generating around NT$4.73 billion in spending.
Of this, NT$449 million was spent in the Eastern District's commercial area, underscoring the venue's economic impact. The city conducted an economic survey on Taipei Dome events, revealing that attendees of the Sept. 15 and 16 games spent an average of NT$3,383 each, with NT$321 allocated to dining and shopping in the Eastern District.
Addressing concerns from local business circles, Chiang emphasized the city's commitment to promoting the concert economy and formulating long-term plans to sustain Taipei Dome's economic benefits. As Taipei prepares for the New Year's festivities, all eyes are on how the city manages the dual events and leverages the economic opportunities presented by the Taipei Dome.
