TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's semiconductor industry is poised to play a pivotal role in the burgeoning field of artificial intelligence, as NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) underscores the potential for large-scale production of automobiles, drones, and humanoid robots. He emphasized Taiwan's manufacturing prowess as crucial in this AI-driven era.

Reports indicate that NVIDIA's robotics development team recently initiated a "selection" phase in Taiwan, engaging with several machine tool companies. These firms have received requests for essential component technologies and specifications, as well as inquiries about joining NVIDIA's robotics supply chain. Sources suggest that establishing an assembly base in Taiwan could be a possibility.

Moreover, Tesla has recently unveiled its humanoid robot, Optimus, and is reportedly targeting Taiwan's supply chain to fulfill a strong demand for vital components. Nobunaga Chai (柴煥欣), vice president of Cloud Express (雲報政經產業研究院), asserts that Taiwan holds a manufacturing edge in AI thanks to its comprehensive electronic industry chain, competitive costs, and superior technology.

Deputy Director Tai Chih-Yen (戴志言) of the Chung Hua Institution for Economic Research (中華經濟研究院) noted that while robots heavily rely on AI and advanced technology, challenges remain in producing them affordably and achieving market and societal acceptance. Should NVIDIA establish an assembly base in Taiwan, the Taiwan-U.S. robotics supply chain could gradually take shape, further advancing the development of humanoid and professional robots.
