TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The chairman of Etron Technology (鈺創) on Monday (Dec. 16) highlighted the focus on advanced manufacturing processes, particularly those of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) and AI chip production. The 12th National Science and Technology Conference (第十二次全國科學技術會議) commenced in Taipei, drawing attention to the semiconductor industry's cautious optimism for growth in 2025.
Etron Technology Chairman Lu Chao-chun (盧超群) emphasized the need to monitor consumer electronics, notably personal computers and smartphones, alongside the global semiconductor foundry capacity. He anticipates the industry will adjust in the first half of 2025, with AI, big data, and cloud computing strategies nearing completion. Lu said that edge computing AI and robotics applications will gradually emerge as growth drivers in the latter half.
Addressing the U.S.-China tech war, Lu noted Taiwan's solid position in global semiconductor and electronic tech manufacturing. He stated that Taiwan can only understand further decisions after the new U.S. government takes office. Lu urged Taiwan to leverage its existing foundation for a more significant advantage, asserting its indispensability to the U.S.
Regarding Intel's leadership changes after Pat Gelsinger's retirement, Lu expressed confidence in Intel's robust talent and technology. He remarked that the new CEO should unify the team to generate new strengths and adopt innovative approaches in the foundry business. The conference lasts 3 days, with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) in attendance. It fosters discussions on Taiwan's technological advancements and strategic positioning.
