TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) will lead a delegation of Taiwanese students to China from Dec. 18 to 26, Hsiao Hsu-tsen (蕭旭岑), CEO of the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation (馬英九基金會), announced on Wednesday (Dec. 11). The visit includes attending the Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival (哈爾濱國際冰雪節) and a tour of Chengdu, Sichuan (四川成都).
Hsiao noted that the foundation recently hosted a delegation from seven Chinese universities, including Tsinghua University, Beijing (北京清華大學), in Taiwan. Following this, Ma will lead young Taiwanese students to participate in activities in China, showcasing his commitment to fostering cross-strait youth exchanges. Ma frequently emphasizes that increased interaction between young people across the strait leads to deeper understanding and fewer future conflicts. He consistently promotes this belief in various forums, aiming to bridge the gap between Taiwan and China through peaceful dialogue.
Although the foundation operates as a private entity, it supports government efforts to enhance cross-strait exchanges. Through several annual youth exchange visits, it aims to minimize misunderstandings between the two sides, contributing to mutual understanding and peace. Hsiao believes these exchanges align with the interests and well-being of the Taiwanese people.
