TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷) stated on Friday (Dec. 6) that despite her withdrawal from the World Boxing Association's year-end tournament due to gender controversy, her teammates' impressive performances were a source of pride. Lin attended the 2024 "National Sports Medal and Sports Science Research Award Ceremony" (國光體育獎章暨運動科學研究獎勵頒獎典禮), and received NT$20.9 million. Badminton champions Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟) and Lee Yang (李洋) each took home NT$20.6 million.
Lin's coach, Tseng Tzu-chiang (曾自強) acknowledged Taiwan's official membership in the World Boxing Association (WB, 國際拳擊總會) but noted the organization's current developmental challenges. He highlighted the need for clearer gender definitions, especially as transgender athletes emerge, calling for explicit regulations. When asked about her prize money, Lin stated she has yet to decide how to spend it. However, she expressed a desire to "give back to the grassroots and engage in charity." Lin mentioned that her post-Olympics experiences have provided her with many opportunities to utilize the funds wisely.
The Sports Administration (體育署) awarded a record NT$4.647 billion in the National Sports Awards. Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) attended the ceremony to present awards, rallying support for the athletes and coaches by declaring, "No matter if you consider yourselves Team Taiwan or Team Chinese Taipei, we are a world champion team."
