TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) on Wednesday (Dec. 4) emphasized the irreplaceable warmth of Taiwan's service industry amid the rise of artificial intelligence. Speaking at the Taiwan Chain Stores and Franchise Association's (台灣連鎖暨加盟協會) award ceremony, Hsiao reaffirmed the sector's role as Taiwan's international face and reputation builder.
Hsiao also noted that the service industry's warmth and enthusiasm showcase Taiwan's beauty to the world. She acknowledged the challenges posed by online shopping to physical stores but insisted chain franchises could continue expanding their services. Hsiao further highlighted demographic challenges, such as declining young consumer numbers and an aging population, necessitating service adjustments for diverse customer groups.
Addressing the service sector's adaptation to net-zero carbon and ESG demands, Hsiao pointed to AI's transformative impact. She stressed that AI cannot replace humans but could be utilized to analyze customers' needs, further helping the development of chain stores and franchises. Hsiao also shared insights from discussions with foreign friends living or studying in Taiwan, who praised the country's freedom, democracy, and the warmth of its people.
Last but not least, Hsiao underscored Taiwan's safety, noting that 24-hour nighttime stores reflect the country's welcoming and secure environment. She reiterated the service industry's crucial role in establishing Taiwan's positive international reputation and gaining global recognition for its quality.
