TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Presidential Office spokeswoman stated on Monday (Nov. 18) that the joint declaration from the U.S., Japan, and Australia highlighted Taiwan's critical role in maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. Karen Kuo (郭雅慧) expressed gratitude to international allies for their focus on the Taiwan Strait and regional issues, stating Taiwan's position at the forefront of the democratic defense line.
She described Taiwan as a responsible member of both the regional and international community, and underscored the importance of peace in the Taiwan Strait as essential for global prosperity. The defense ministers of the U.S., Japan, and Australia met Sunday in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. After the meeting, they released a joint statement reaffirming the significance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
The statement called for resolving cross-strait issues peacefully and firmly opposed any attempts to alter the status quo through force or coercion. It also addressed concerns regarding the South China Sea and East China Sea.
