TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Check Point Software Technologies released data on Tuesday (Nov. 12) showing a dramatic rise in cyberattacks this year, where Taiwan led the Asia-Pacific region with an average of 4,129 weekly attacks, highlighting the growing cyber threat. In the third quarter, organizations worldwide faced an average of 1,876 weekly cyberattacks, marking a 75% increase.
According to Central News Agency (CNA), Check Point's statistics show the most targeted industries in Taiwan include hardware suppliers, government and military institutions, and the manufacturing sector, experiencing 7,046, 5,357, and 4,175 weekly attacks, respectively. Globally, phishing attacks frequently use brands like Microsoft, Apple, Google, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
Check Point noted that the third quarter saw unprecedented spikes in cyberattacks, indicating a significant escalation in both the number and intensity of cyber threats faced by organizations. Education and research institutions emerged as the most vulnerable industry worldwide, with an average of 3,828 weekly attacks. Africa experienced the highest number of cyberattacks globally, averaging 3,370 weekly attacks, a 90% increase.
The Asia-Pacific region averaged 2,863 weekly attacks, showing a 55% increase, with Taiwan's attacks rising by 44%. As cyber threats continue to escalate, organizations must bolster their defenses to safeguard against these increasingly sophisticated attacks.
