TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Leaders and representatives worldwide gathered for the APEC summit, which began Monday (Nov. 11) in Peru. Taiwan plans to seize this opportunity to express its commitment to adhering to high trade standards with members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Minister without Portfolio and Trade Representative Yang Jen-ni (楊珍妮) emphasized Taiwan's readiness to pursue a green economy, inclusive growth, and digital transformation alongside CPTPP countries. Taiwan aims to replicate its success in signing bilateral trade agreements with Canada and the U.K. by enhancing industrial and technological cooperation with CPTPP members.

Meanwhile, the U.S. presidential election concluded with Donald Trump returning to the White House, potentially impacting U.S.-Taiwan trade relations over the next four years. Officials from both nations plan to discuss continuing the U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade (台美21世紀貿易倡議) during the APEC summit.

Taiwan's representatives for the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) include Acer (宏碁) Chairman Jason Chen (陳俊聖), Taiwan Mobile (台灣大哥大) CEO Jamie Lin (林之晨), and Quanta Computer (廣達電腦) CTO Ted Chang (張嘉淵). These tech industry leaders revealed plans at the 2023 APEC summit in San Francisco to promote more intelligent solutions and establish an AI framework for the Asia-Pacific region.
