TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) announced on Thursday (Nov. 7) that Lin Hsin-i (林信義), a presidential senior adviser, will represent Taiwan at the 2024 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. The meeting will take place in Lima, Peru, on Nov. 15-16. Lai expressed gratitude to Lin for accepting the invitation to serve as Taiwan's representative.
Speaking during a press conference, President Lai explained that this year's APEC theme, "Empower, Include, Grow," aligns with Taiwan's three key proposals. The first proposal highlights Taiwan's contributions to the international community, particularly in AI and digital healthcare, Lai said.
The second underscores Taiwan's support for a fairer, more inclusive international trade order, with a willingness to collaborate with APEC partner, while the third proposal focuses on promoting digital trade development and cooperation with other economies, he added.
Lin has represented Taiwan at APEC meetings in 2000, 2001, and 2005.
Lai conveyed his trust in Lin's ability to accurately convey Taiwan's perspectives to other APEC economies. Lin's career spans both public and private sectors, having served as Minister of Economic Affairs and Vice Premier, and currently chairs Taiwania Capital.
Lai extended his best wishes for a successful trip to Lin and the delegation, expressing confidence in their ability to fulfill their mission. The forthcoming APEC meeting presents an opportunity for Taiwan to reinforce its commitment to international collaboration and trade.
