NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) reported on Monday (Nov. 4) that Typhoon Kong-rey caused power outages affecting 180,000 households in the city. Currently, over 100 households remain without electricity. Hou emphasized that the impact of the typhoon exceeded that of Typhoon Krathon, primarily due to fallen trees and power outages, with incidents surpassing 10,000.
Taiwan Power Company (台電公司) data confirmed the initial 180,000 outages, but district offices recorded over twice that number. Hou ordered the mobilization of equipment from 29 district offices and city government teams to respond immediately to the disaster. They coordinated with Taiwan Power Company through a dedicated group to restore electricity.
The city government teams assisted Taiwan Power Company in removing trees that had fallen on power lines. The number of households without power has decreased to just over 100, mainly in mountainous areas. Hou stressed that the city government fully supports community efforts to clear fallen trees. After repairs, major roads and cityscapes have been restored, and traffic signals are operational again.
