TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Civil Aviation Administration's (CAA, 民航局) director general announced Monday (Oct. 21) that EVA Air (長榮航空) purchased 33 Airbus SE (空中巴士) aircraft in 2023, which are expected to reduce fuel consumption by 25%. EVA Air and Airbus hosted an event to sign an agreement exploring optimal decarbonization paths over the next two years.
Ho Shu-ping (何淑萍), CAA's director general, approved the collaboration, emphasizing that net-zero carbon emissions are a critical policy for the aviation industry and the nation. Christian Scherer, Airbus' chief commercial officer, pledged to deepen cooperation with EVA Air to reduce carbon emissions.
Clay Sun (孫嘉明), EVA Air's executive vice president, highlighted this significant investment marks Taiwan's largest aircraft purchase. EVA Air aims to bolster EVA Air's long-haul fleet with the A350-1000 by the first quarter of 2027, while the A321neo will replace the current A321-200 by 2029.
EVA Air took a significant step towards sustainability last August by using sustainable aviation fuel with a 40% blend for a flight from Tokyo International Airport to Taipei Songshan Airport (台北松山機場).
