TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Defense Minister Wellington Li-Hsiung Koo (顧立雄) on Thursday (Oct. 17) warned that China could conduct military exercises around Taiwan at any time, using any excuse. Minister Koo spoke to the media before reporting to the Foreign and National Defense Committee (立法院外交及國防委員會), where he addressed defense issues, including China's military drills targeting Taiwan.
China concluded military drills encircling Taiwan on Monday, prompting questions about future exercises. Koo noted that China's exercises often lack justification, leading Taiwan's military to prepare for the unexpected. Moreover, Koo highlighted President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) restrained National Day speech, pointing out China's aggressive nature.
When asked if Taiwan's military strength would be depleted, Koo admitted the possibility but assured that Taiwan would employ joint intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance methods to monitor Chinese military movements closely. This approach aims to reduce unnecessary strain on Taiwan's forces.
