TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration (CGA, 海巡署) reported on Monday (Oct. 14) that it had established a response center in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) to monitor escalating tensions.
This action follows an announcement by the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA, 中國人民解放軍) earlier the same day about military exercises near Taiwan.
PLA released a training video at 11 a.m. on Sunday, which the CGA said aimed to pressure Taiwan. Following the video's release, the Coast Guard detected several China Coast Guard (中國海警船) vessels crossing the Taiwan Strait median line, lingering in the northern, southwestern, and eastern waters of Taiwan.
CGA stated that the PLA and the China Coast Guard's actions have severely impacted peace and regional stability in the Taiwan Strait, intending to alter the status quo. The administration emphasized its preparedness and commitment to defend the nation's maritime borders and sovereignty firmly.
The administration also advised commercial and fishing vessels transiting Taiwan's surrounding waters to remain vigilant against potential threats.
