YUNLIN (TVBS News) — Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) expressed hope on Tuesday (Oct. 1) that this year's National Day fireworks in Yunlin will rekindle Taiwanese patriotism.
Han made the comment earlier that day at a press conference in Yunlin featuring Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-shan (張麗善) and National Day Preparatory Committee (國慶籌備委員會) Secretary-General Wu Tang-an (吳堂安).
Han pointed out that hosting the fireworks in Yunlin aims to remind citizens of the importance of the Republic of China (中華民國). "The Republic of China is our most beloved country," he said. He also hopes the event will reignite the patriotic spirit among Taiwanese people.
Han noted that Yunlin offers a beautiful setting for the event, aiming to showcase the county's charm.
He observed that while Taiwan frequently publishes economic data like GDP and employment figures, it often overlooks its citizens' declining spiritual morale. Han believes the solution lies in implementing patriotic education, as he feels the Taiwanese urgently need to revive their national pride.
During the conference, Han praised Chang Li-shan and her team for their dedication to organizing the event since May. He mentioned his willingness to commit to a vegetarian diet and prayed for favorable weather on the event day.
