LONDON (TVBS News) — A Taiwanese chef expressed his hope on Saturday (Sept. 28) to promote a deeper understanding of Taiwanese culture through cuisine. He emphasized Taiwan's multicultural society and the unifying power of food.
The chef made the statement at an event organized by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC, 中華民國僑務委員會) for the International Tour of Taiwan Gourmet Cuisines (台灣國際美食巡迴講座), which recently arrived in the U.K.
Chefs Chang Ke-chin (張克勤) and Lu Kai-yuan (路凱源) crafted a six-course menu featuring golden kimchi (黃金泡菜), plum tomatoes (梅汁番茄), General Tso's chicken (左宗棠雞), Taiwanese oil rice (台式油飯), three-cup basil mushrooms (三杯塔香野菇), and crispy cheese triangles (三角起司脆奶).
The chefs demonstrated the preparation of three-cup basil mushrooms and General Tso's chicken, sharing cooking tips and explaining the origins of these dishes. This allowed attendees to savor the flavors while gaining a deeper insight into the cultural significance behind Taiwanese cuisine.
Chen Shih-chih (陳世池), an official from the OCAC, highlighted the government's longstanding recognition of Taiwanese cuisine's influence and stated that the government aims to introduce it to the world.
