CHANGHUA (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Education (MOE, 教育部) announced on Friday (Sept. 27) that Chung Chou University of Science and Technology (CCUT, 中州科技大學) transferred its assets, to the Ministry of the Interior (內政部) on Sept. 24, marking the first instance of private school assets being transferred to a central government agency.
The MOE stated in a press release that the Executive Yuan (行政院) decided the MOI would take over the university, which is valued at approximately NT$2.36 billion.
The site will be used for alternative civilian service, national defense, and mobile squad training for the Second Special Police Corps. Future plans for the campus include hosting public self-defense and self-rescue courses, professional civil defense training, and the development of civil defense course instructors.
CCUT closed at the end of July due to declining birth rates and financial difficulties. The MOE followed the "Act Governing the Closure of Private Educational Institutions at Senior Secondary or Higher Level" (私校退場條例), reorganizing a public interest board to manage the school's exit process.
The MOE recently approved the dissolution of four school corporations, including Tung Fang Design Institute (TF, 東方設計大學), Tatung Institute of Commerce and Technology (TTC, 大同技術學院), TransWorld University (TWU, 環球科技大學), and MingDao University (MDU, 明道大學).
The MOE also outlined future plans for these institutions' assets. The National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology will take over theTF's assets to develop an industry-academia cooperation park. The Chiayi County Government will assume responsibility for the TTC's campus. The Executive Yuan's inter-ministerial platform will discuss the future of TWU and MDU's assets.
