KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) addressed the public on Thursday (Sept. 26) regarding the proposed Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) extension to Pingtung.
He emphasized the importance of minimizing the impact on residents while respecting the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) professional assessments.
The extension project currently has two proposed routes. One option involves a direct extension from Zuoying (左營) to Pingtung, while the other route would pass through Kaohsiung Railway Station before reaching Pingtung.
The mayor stressed the need for expert evaluations to determine the best route that minimizes disruptions and improves regional transportation links.
He highlighted the potential construction challenges, including residential relocations and transit impacts. He hoped these factors could be minimized to avoid affecting the city's residents.
