TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese horror comedy "Dead Talents Society" (鬼才之道) earned the audience award at the Fantastic Fest in Austin on Wednesday (Sept. 25), marking the first time a Taiwanese film has won this award at the festival.
Director John Hsu (徐漢強) also received the best horror director award. He expressed his gratitude, sharing, "At the end of the screening in Austin, many people came up to us and said, 'Thank you for making this movie,' and some of them even gave me big hugs and said they felt that they were being understood."
"Dead Talents Society" has been selected for nearly ten international film festivals, and recently won the runner-up Audience Award in the Midnight Madness section at this year's Toronto International Film Festival.
The film tells the story of a washed-up ghost diva, Catherine, and her ghost agent, Makoto, as they struggle to find their place in the ghost world and avoid being left behind by the times, which the Fantastic Fest describes as a "charming tale" on its website.
