TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's allies called for meaningful participation in United Nations (UN) organizations during the Summit of the Future on Tuesday (Sept. 24), highlighting the misinterpretation of UN Resolution 2758.
Marshall Islands President Hilda C. Heine emphasized Taiwan's significance as a partner. She stated, "If everyone believes in 'leaving no one behind,' then Taiwan's meaningful participation in the UN system must be elevated."
Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr. recognized Taiwan's contributions to global development and technology cooperation. He noted the irony in this year's UN General Assembly theme, "Leave No One Behind," and criticized the misinterpretation of Resolution 2758, which excludes Taiwan from the UN and its agencies.
Eswatini Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini highlighted Taiwan's significant contributions to global public health, economic development, and technological innovation. He called for Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations, stating that excluding Taiwan limits global cooperation.
Paraguay President Santiago Peña Palacios advocated for a peaceful and unified future, free from violence and conquest. He summarized his stance, saying, "Might does not make right. For this reason, we defend Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as they have the right to be treated with respect and dignity."
Multiple heads of state and foreign ministers attended the summit, where they discussed crucial issues such as climate change, war and violence, technological innovation, and governance.
