TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Department of Transportation, Taipei City (台北市交通局), announced Thursday (Sept. 12) that Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) will use public transportation on Sept. 20 to support World Car-Free Day. This initiative aims to promote eco-friendly commuting among residents.
Huang Huang-jia (黃皇嘉), an official from the Department of Transportation, revealed that from Sept. 20 to Oct. 11, citizens can receive free coffee by riding bicycles to designated locations every Friday morning starting at 7:30 a.m.
These locations include Xinyi Plaza (信義廣場), Zhongxin Plaza (忠信廣場), DaGangQian Park (大港墘公園), Zhouzi Park No. 2 (洲子二號公園), World Trade Park (世貿公園), MRT Guandu Station Exit 1 (捷運關渡站), MRT Songjiang Nanjing Station Exit 7 (捷運松江南京站), and MRT Zhongshan Elementary School Station Exit 2 (捷運中山國小站).
Huang further stated that the Department of Transportation will collaborate with the Department of Education (教育局) to promote low-carbon commuting among elementary school students. He emphasized the importance of instilling low-carbon concepts from an early age.
Liao Wen-ching (廖文靜), an official from the Department of Education, explained that the initiative encourages fourth to sixth-grade students to walk to school. Liao estimated that this trial period could reduce carbon emissions by 772.8 kilograms within one month.
