TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Despite the Mid-Autumn Festival falling on a Tuesday this year, leaving most people working on Monday, Taoyuan International Airport (桃園國際機場) is bracing for a surge in passenger traffic. The airport expects between 860,000 and 910,000 travelers from Sept. 12 to 18, with the peak on Sept. 15, when 133,000 passengers are forecasted to pass through.
Airport officials noted that passenger numbers will exceed 130,000 in the following two days and on Sept. 17. Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC, 桃機公司) reported that passenger volume has already reached 30 million as of Sept. 1 and could hit 45 million by year-end.
The airport anticipates 4,959 flights during the seven-day travel period. Peak departure times at Terminal 1 are from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. At Terminal 2, peak times are 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The airport company will adjust staffing and resources based on passenger forecasts and real-time flight dynamics. It will also coordinate with customs, passport control, quarantine, and security services and increase the food supply.
TIAC urges outbound passengers to utilize smart services and confirm security check requirements in advance. They also remind inbound travelers to avoid bringing prohibited animal and plant products, adhere to currency, tobacco, and alcohol regulations, and use public transportation.
