TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Authorities summoned former Taipei deputy mayor Pong Cheng-sheng (彭振聲) on Tuesday (Sept. 10) morning to clarify details regarding the Core Pacific City corruption case. The Taipei District Prosecutor's Office (台北地檢署) called Pong in after questioning Core Pacific Group chairman Sheen Ching-jin (沈慶京) on Monday afternoon.
Pong, who wore the prison uniform, a blue jacket, shorts, and blue-and-white slippers, arrived at the prosecutor's office at approximately 9:17 a.m. The Taipei District Court had ordered his detention on Sept. 2, suspecting him of serious corruption charges with a minimum penalty of five years. The court cited risks of evidence tampering and flight.
Investigators have been probing the case for several months. On Aug. 30, they interviewed Pong and his wife, Hsieh Hsia-chiao (謝夏喬), suspecting that suspicious funds moved through her account during sensitive periods. Authorities believe these funds could be bribes linked to the case. While Hsieh was released as a witness, Pong remains a key figure in custody.
On Monday, Hsieh, accompanied by her daughter, delivered several large medicine packets to Pong's lawyer, Li Yueh-yang (李岳洋), outside the visitor room at the detention center. Li then took the medicine inside for his client.
The investigation continues, with authorities focusing on the financial transactions and potential bribery linked to the case. The public awaits further developments as the case progresses.
