TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of the Interior (MOI, 內政部) announced on Sunday (Sept. 8) a plan to upgrade public buildings to achieve first-class energy efficiency or near-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This initiative aims to help Taiwan meet its net-zero emissions target.
The MOI stated that since July 2023, it has begun implementing measures to ensure that all new public buildings meet first-class energy efficiency or near-zero carbon standards by 2030. These efforts include updating electrical facilities and installing solar panels in offices and visitor centers within national parks.
National parks, which are public properties, have already started assessing and replacing outdated electrical systems in administrative buildings. The MOI emphasized that each national park's unique ecological environments and natural landscapes will be considered when installing energy-saving facilities. The goal is to accelerate the transition to net zero without compromising environmental conservation and tourism resources.
The MOI's announcement highlights Taiwan's commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation. As the country works towards its ambitious 2050 net-zero goal, these upgrades to public buildings represent a significant step forward.
