TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Environment (MOENV, 環境部) launched a demonstration subsidy program to promote the 2050 net-zero initiative, allocating NT$500 million to install electric vehicle charging stations in public areas across eight counties and cities. Following the launch, Tainan and Taoyuan secured the most significant grants, receiving 80% of the total funds.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) recently announced a successful bid for NT$250 million in central government subsidies. The city plans to build charging stations at 202 sites across its 37 districts. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) strategic action plans for Taiwan's 2050 net-zero transformation, which focuses on promoting electric vehicles and transportation decarbonization.

Central News Agency (CNA) reported that the Department of Atmospheric Environment head Chang Shun-chin (張順欽) said the demonstration project approved plans from New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Chiayi County, Chiayi City, Tainan, Kaohsiung City, Taitung County, and Kinmen County. The project will improve power facilities at at least 400 public sites and pave the way for the installation of around 1,000 charging stations for public use.

Chang pointed out that the two-year demonstration project, which will be completed by 2024, is funded by the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program budget.

The second phase of the air pollution control plan (2024-2027) will involve nine ministries and an investment of NT$76.6 billion to improve air quality. MOENV plans to allocate NT$7.9 billion to tighten emission standards, subsidize electric buses, and enhance the charging network, creating a friendlier environment for electric vehicles.
