NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je's (柯文哲) wife, Peggy Chen (陳佩琪), visited the Taipei Detention Center (台北看守所) on Friday (Sept. 6) to deliver essential supplies.
Legislator Huang Shan-shan (黃珊珊) of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 台灣民眾黨) accompanied Chen. Authorities detained Ko amid a corruption case involving the Core Pacific City (京華城) redevelopment.
Because Ko is under visitation restrictions, Chen could only drop off items, including two books. One of the books was "Taiwan's 400-Year History" (台灣人400年史) by Su Beng (史明), a revolutionary figure in Taiwan's independence movement.
The book critically examines Taiwan's history of colonization and massacres and explores the development of Taiwanese nationalism.
The Taipei Detention Center confirmed Ko resides in a three-person cell. However, citing privacy concerns, they declined to comment on his cellmates, emotional state, or health.
Ko's meals at the detention center follow a set menu. For breakfast, he had steamed buns with milk tea. Lunch included black pepper pork, fried fish, and seaweed egg drop soup. Dinner featured braised beef, scallion bacon, seasonal vegetables, and celery meatball soup.
