TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei District Court (TPD, 台北地方法院) ruled Monday (Sept. 2) that Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) did not face significant criminal charges and released him without bail.
TPP legislator Vivian Huang (黃珊珊) emphasized that the verdict brought immense relief to Ko and his wife, Peggy Chen (陳佩琪), urging people to allow the couple to rest.
Ko and Chen did not return home but instead stayed at Huang's residence in Xizhi. Huang explained that the media presence outside Ko's residence had made it impossible for the couple to leave.
She further noted that the past few days had been particularly stressful for Chen, although Ko seemed to be in good condition.
The court released Ko early this morning, with Vivian Huang, Peggy Chen, and TPP legislator Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) waiting outside the TPD for the verdict.
Upon confirmation of Ko's release, Huang Kuo-chang shouted, "Ko Wen-je released without bail," prompting cheers from supporters. Chen, moved to tears, bowed to thank the supporters.
