TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Shilin District Court (士林地方法院) sentenced Taiwanese actor Wang Po-chieh (王柏傑) to two months in prison on Wednesday (Sept. 4) for endangering public safety. The court allowed Wang to convert imprisonment into fine, priced at NT$1,000 per day of his sentence.
Wang released a statement through his publicist, saying, "I will learn from this incident and reflect deeply on it. Once again, I sincerely apologize to everyone and thank you for your concern."
Wang drank alcohol at a sports stadium in New Taipei City (新北市) around 7 p.m. on June 17, and caused a car accident on Jinzhuang Road in Taipei City's Neihu District (台北市內湖區金莊路) the next day around 3 p.m.
Police arrived at the scene and measured Wang's blood alcohol content at 0.44 milligrams per liter. Authorities transferred him to the Shilin District Prosecutors Office (士林地檢署) for violating public safety laws.
Prosecutors noted that Wang admitted his actions during police questioning and the investigation. They based their case on the alcohol test record and the Taipei City Police Department (台北市警察局) citation notice, confirming his public safety violation.
The Shilin District Court, following the prosecutors' charges, sentenced Wang to two months in prison. The court allowed him to convert his sentence to a fine of NT$1,000 per day. Wang retains the right to appeal the ruling.
This case highlights the serious consequences of driving under the influence. Authorities urge the public to avoid such behavior to ensure road safety.
