TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) announced on Monday (Sept. 2) that it will hold its first minimum wage review meeting on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Experts predict a potential 4% increase, marking the ninth consecutive year of wage hikes.
In recent years, the review committee has based its decisions on the annual growth rate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the economic growth rate. The anticipated adjustment could raise the monthly wage to NT$28,570 and the hourly wage to NT$190.
Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) instructed the committee to ensure that the benefits of economic growth are shared by all citizens. He hopes the committee will thoroughly discuss this year's economic growth rate and CPI.
Huang Chen (黃維琛), director of the Department of Labor Standards and Equal Employment, MOL, emphasized that the CPI should be a reference indicator. He stated that the final adjustment method would be decided on the day of the meeting.
The MOL added that it will hold a brief press conference to explain the meeting's outcome once the results are finalized on Wednesday.
