TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Badminton star Chou Tien-chen (周天成) declared himself in great shape ahead of the Yonex Taipei Open (台北羽球公開賽) on Monday (Sept. 2), expressing gratitude for his health and confidence in his upcoming performances.
At 34, Chou, who ranks No. 9 globally, is the top seed for this year's tournament. He has previously claimed the title in 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022.
Chou injured his left rib alveoli and soft tissue using a breathing resistance device before the Daihatsu Japan Open 2024 semifinals. He also developed blisters on his feet during the championship match, prompting an early return to Taiwan for treatment and causing him to miss last week's Korea Open.
Speqking at the pre-match press conference, Chou now reports a full recovery, stating that he has started training and practicing at the main venue. The Yonex Taipei Open will take place from Sept. 3 to 8 at Taipei Arena (台北小巨蛋).
